Whether you saw it on Netflix<\/strong>, passed by a billboard on your way to school, or even just heard about your friends talking about their latest show obsessions<\/strong>, there is a good chance<\/strong> you have heard of the name Stranger Things<\/strong>. But what do you know about the show that started from a discarded<\/strong> project<\/strong>, to one of Netflix\u2019s biggest<\/strong> success<\/strong>?<\/p>\n

What actually is Stranger Things?<\/h1>\n

For those of you who have been living under a rock, Stranger Things<\/strong> is a Netflix Original Show<\/strong> that follows the story of a group of boys in 1980\u2019s<\/strong> Indiana<\/strong>, fighting against supernatural<\/strong> forces centred around Dungeons<\/strong> and<\/strong> Dragons<\/strong>. The show features talented actors such as Winona Ryder, Maya Hawke <\/strong>and Joe Keery,<\/strong> which combines with the brilliant directing skills of the Duffer Brothers<\/strong> to create a cinematic<\/strong> masterpiece<\/strong>. You can expect a wide variety<\/strong> of scenes, from gruesome horror, emotional twists, and heartwarming romance.<\/p>\n

Overcoming Issues<\/h1>\n

While Stranger Things is one of the most<\/strong> popular<\/strong> shows<\/strong> today, it wasn’t always apparent to Netflix. When the Duffer Brothers<\/strong> first pitched their idea to the recruiters<\/strong>, they weren’t happy with the idea of having a show with child actors that wasn’t for children, and thought it was a crazy<\/strong> idea<\/strong>. It took no less than 20<\/strong> tries<\/strong> for a recruiter to finally accept<\/strong> the concept of Stranger Things and put it into action<\/strong>. Think<\/strong>, if<\/strong> the Duffer Brothers gave up<\/strong> after their first attempt and left their plans to gather dust<\/strong> in an old box, Stranger Things would still be the idea it first was almost 10<\/strong> years<\/strong> ago<\/strong>!<\/p>\n

Why is Stranger Things so Popular?<\/h1>\n

When the show first aired<\/strong> on Netflix, viewers were touched by the idea that the show revolved around children that weren’t<\/strong> particularly popular<\/strong> and had challenging backgrounds<\/strong>. One of the main reasons I enjoyed the show was that it showcased the reality<\/strong> of being what society called, a “weird kid”.<\/em> The show takes a deep dive into the lives<\/strong> and behaviours <\/b>of each of these children to the point where it feels like each season you’re growing up with them.<\/p>\n

Another reason why Stranger Things is so popular is because of the time period<\/strong> it’s set in. This show goes all the way back to the 80’s<\/strong>, which the Duffer Brothers captured perfectly with the use of music<\/strong>, clothing<\/strong> and general style<\/strong>. This appealed to the older members<\/strong> of the audience<\/strong> who felt nostalgic<\/strong> watching the show and wanted to reminisce<\/strong> with their childhood<\/strong> experiences<\/strong>. It also proved intriguing<\/strong> for younger<\/strong> viewers<\/strong> who wanted to learn more<\/strong> about the trends<\/strong> and traditions<\/strong> of the 1980s<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

The Success of Stranger Things<\/h1>\n

Not only have the cast won awards for their performance, the show has won numerous<\/strong> awards for their casting<\/strong>, special<\/strong> effects<\/strong> and soundtracks<\/strong>. Just a few of their combined awards include: People’s Choice Awards Show of 2019 and 2022, MTV’s series of the year, and 2018’s Kids Choice Awards Favourite TV Show. In terms of personal<\/strong> awards, Millie Bobby Brown received 16<\/strong> awards for her role of “Eleven”,<\/strong> including a Screen Actors Guild Award for Outstanding Performance from an ensemble in a Drama Series.<\/p>\n
