World\u00a0Book\u00a0Day\u00a0was first created\u00a0in 1995 by UNESCO\u00a0and\u00a0was initially known as \u2018World\u00a0Book &\u00a0Copyright\u00a0Day\u2019.\u00a0The\u00a0initial\u00a0aim of the day was to promote reading, publishing, and copyright, encouraging a lifetime love of reading and literature. Now, over 30 years later,\u00a0World\u00a0Book\u00a0Day is a national event celebrated in the UK\u00a0and Ireland on March 5th and globally on April 23rd.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The international\u00a0World\u00a0Book\u00a0Day date, April 23rd\u00a0was chosen\u00a0as it was the day that William Shakespeare died, to\u00a0honour\u00a0his death and legacy. The day\u00a0was launched\u00a0in the UK\u00a0by Prime Minister Tony Blair at the globe theatre in1998.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/p>\n

Today, over 100 countries all over the world\u00a0recognise\u00a0and celebrate\u00a0World\u00a0Book\u00a0Day, making this event the longest celebration of reading ever.\u00a0The event specifically targets young people, with the aim\u00a0of helping\u00a0them understand the joy of reading and increase engagement with reading.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

Bolton School encouraged students to dress up as their\u00a0favourite\u00a0book characters on this day to help celebrate their love of reading.\u00a0Students from across the divisions dressed up as Katniss Everdeen from the\u00a0Hunger\u00a0Games,\u00a0the\u00a0Little\u00a0Miss characters, and\u00a0Shrek.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Additionally, both the Boys\u2019 Division and Girls\u2019 Division held\u00a0World\u00a0Book\u00a0Day events in\u00a0each division\u2019s\u00a0Great\u00a0Hall to make an interactive and exciting\u00a0event\u00a0for students.\u00a0The\u00a0Girls Division event was led by\u00a0Ashriya Fernando\u00a0and\u00a0Nishan Sharma\u00a0led\u00a0the Boys Division\u00a0event.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

The event had\u00a0many stalls\u00a0containing\u00a0fun book themed\u00a0games and\u00a0activities\u00a0for students, some of these included a book giveaway, guess the book based on its quotes and emojis,\u00a0a\u00a0photobooth with props, create\u00a0your own story, and a cake stall.\u00a0This resulted in over 100 books\u00a0being\u00a0given away\u00a0in the\u00a0Girls’\u00a0Division\u00a0and\u00a0was overall\u00a0a huge success\u00a0for all.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n

World Book Day is\u00a0a great opportunity\u00a0for everyone to express their love for literature and\u00a0enjoy the wonders of reading.\u00a0Celebrated across over 100 countries, it is a\u00a0highly\u00a0anticipated\u00a0event every year, and\u00a0we strongly recommend you join in with the\u00a0festivities\u00a0next year!\u00a0<\/p>\n
