In the last week of March,\u00a0Bolton School\u00a0celebrated\u00a0its annual culture week, with the\u00a0focus\u00a0being\u00a0a\u00a0Cultural Dress Day held on Friday 27th\u00a0March. Students were given a variety of\u00a0internal\u00a0opportunities to\u00a0foster cultural curiosity, embrace diversity and showcase\u00a0identity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Culture Day is recognised by\u00a0schools\u00a0and communities worldwide\u00a0as a way to\u00a0celebrate cultural diversity and one\u2019s own heritage.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Often,\u00a0sharing experiences\u00a0through food, fashion, the\u00a0arts,\u00a0and language\u00a0inspires\u00a0an\u00a0appreciation\u00a0for the multicultural\u00a0community that thrives on campus.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Bolton School is no different and\u00a0prides itself in celebrating\u00a0a\u00a0diverse demographic of staff and pupils\u00a0within the school community\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

For\u00a0Culture Week,\u00a0these are just some of the key highlights that were\u00a0on the Bolton School itinerary.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

The week began with a meeting on Monday that announced Manchester\u00a0Metropolitan University\u2019s\u00a0\u2018Mother Tongue, Other Tongue\u2019\u00a0Competition,\u00a0by\u00a0which students can delve into the intricacies of foreign languages through poetry.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Following on from this, Wednesday\u00a0marked a\u00a0culture fair held in the Great Hall\u00a0with\u00a0student-led stalls discussing\u00a0various aspects of their respective cultural histories.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0The event was especially popular amongst\u00a0students\u00a0lower down\u00a0school\u00a0with\u00a0world quizzes, dance\u00a0performances,\u00a0and the chance to win prizes.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Yet, the\u00a0pi\u00e8ce de\u00a0r\u00e9sistance\u00a0of the week\u00a0had to be\u00a0Friday\u2019s Cultural\u00a0Dress Day\u00a0\u2013 a day on which students were given the chance to dress in clothes that reflected their identity.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Many chose\u00a0to honour\u00a0their\u00a0cultural heritage through\u00a0wearing traditional, ethnic attire such as saris\u00a0and shalwar kameez\u00a0from South Asia or\u00a0abayas from the Middle East.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0Yet beyond\u00a0culture,\u00a0students were also given the opportunity to share other aspects of their identity like\u00a0personal interests.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Y13 Prefect Meerab\u00a0Adeel\u00a0shared the following about what the day meant to her:\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cCulture Day was about everyone coming together and showing what makes them unique. This year felt extra special because there\u00a0was\u00a0so much energy and effort from everyone, from all the different student-led stalls to the outfits that people chose to wear to express themselves.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

In essence,\u00a0Culture\u00a0Day\u00a0provides a platform for cultural expression and exploration: instilling in students to be curious, embrace and learn from\u00a0diverse cultural experiences.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

And this year, Bolton School definitely understood the assignment.<\/span><\/p>\n
