Do\u00a0you\u00a0know what a bollard is?\u00a0If you\u00a0do\u00a0not, you have\u00a0definitely seen\u00a0one on your way to school or work.\u00a0Bollards are large thick posts, designed to protect pedestrians and buildings from\u00a0being hit\u00a0by vehicles.<\/p>\n
While they were effective at protecting pedestrians, the design of these bollards was\u00a0underwhelming,\u00a0but one\u00a0man\u00a0saw creative potential.<\/p>\n

Every morning, on my way to school (for the past 11 years)\u00a0I have\u00a0passed by these unassuming bollards on Kenyon Way, Little Hulton,\u00a0and to little surprise, they\u00a0weren\u2019t\u00a0noticed by the public.\u00a0Around\u00a0three months ago, I took sight of the first minion. I was slightly confused at first, but afterwards I became intrigued at how creative it was.<\/p>\n
For weeks, I repeatedly saw\u00a0more and more\u00a0minions appearing. They even started having different variations\u00a0such as\u00a0Spider-Man, Dead-pool,\u00a0and Darth Vader. By now, I was in awe of these spectacular minions, but there was still one question; who did it?<\/p>\n
I tried for many weeks, researching and scanning news articles looking for anything that could give me clue of this mystery person. Until the 3rd\u00a0of October, when the man revealed himself to be Martin Withers. Martin Withers is a Salford based street artist who saw the bollards and\u00a0came up with a genius idea to turn these into minions.<\/p>\n

Martin revealed his identity by painting his social media account on one of his minions, which led to multiple news reporters contacting him. This led to him being able to share the sort of\u00a0what the minions\u00a0meant\u00a0to him and why he decided to paint them in the first place.<\/p>\n
In response to these\u00a0bollards,\u00a0residents started donating money\u00a0in order for\u00a0him to\u00a0begin\u00a0painting\u00a0more minions\u00a0around the area.\u00a0Martin has now collected a total of \u00a3300 and has made almost 20 minions, all with their own unique design.\u00a0I admire Martin\u2019s creativity and truly hope to see more of his work around Salford.<\/p>\n
