Hike to the Pike

On a grey Wednesday morning, I joined my fellow students and teachers from Bolton School for our charity walk to Rivington Pike. The 20-kilometre round trip had a particularly special purpose: raising funds to build a school in Malawi.

We set off early, from by form, the overcast skies and steady drizzle only slightly dampening our spirits. Equipped with waterproof jackets and sturdy walking boots, we set off through the streets of Heaton, Smithills and on to Moss Bank Park.

As we left the town and ventured into the countryside, the terrain became more challenging. The muddy and slippery paths tested our endurance, especially during the steep climb to Rivington Pike.

Reaching the summit, even with limited views due to the overcast weather, felt like a significant achievement.

The journey back was less strenuous but still challenging due to the persistent drizzle.  Returning to Bolton School, we were welcomed with ice cream and snacks, which provided a much-needed sugar hit. The day concluded with a sense of quiet satisfaction, knowing we had contributed to a meaningful cause.

The funds raised from our walk will go towards building a school in Malawi, providing essential educational resources and facilities for children who currently lack access to quality education. This project means a lot to us at Bolton School, as it reflects our commitment to supporting global education efforts.
