A Glimpse into the Future: let’s explore 2125!
Have you ever wondered what our home, planet Earth, might look like in a century? We invite you to embark on a journey with us to explore the year 2125.
This exploration focuses on the critical question of whether our planet will continue to be a victim of pollution, or if humanity will successfully change its course. Drawing insights from a visit to the Natural History Museum, this is David Attenborough’s perspective on what our world could transform into, presenting potential futures based upon the choices we make today.
What will happen if we continue polluting Earth?
If we continue with our bad habits, plastic pollution will rapidly increase, leading to the extinction of many aquatic creatures. Due to our continuous littering, ocean beds could be completely polluted with plastic waste.

Should we as people stop climate change and deforestation?
Due to the climate change we are already experiencing, the temperatures will skyrocket, and the temperature and ocean levels will increase detrimentally in these 100 years. Furthermore, deforestation could lead to the extinction of a multitude of plants and animals.
What would happen if we acted now?
By taking immediate action to protect our planet, we can enable the Earth time to recover and thrive. Advanced science and technology could be used to restore natural habitats, and potentially help to restore species on the brink of extinction. Ecosystems may begin to flourish again, as demonstrated by the potential success of projects like the Great Green Wall in the Sahel region of Africa.
Scientists believe that creating controlled environments, such as specialised domes, could help endangered species adapt and survive. A key goal for conservation is to have the DNA of most species stored by 2045, which would be a vital step toward restoring endangered animal populations.
What can we do?
Even though scientists play a significant role in the future, you also have the power to help shape the destiny of our planet. Maybe you could create a bug hotel, set up bird feeders, or create places for bees to pollinate in your garden. You could even learn more about our beautiful planet by visiting zoos, or even the Natural History Museum. You can even stop litter pollution by organising your own litter-picking event!
In conclusion, there are many things that we can do to help our planet, and we hope you will all try to find out more in relation to our wonderful world – perhaps even visit the Natural History Museum! We really believe that actions can be taken by our Bolton School community, to play a part in our planet’s future and survival.
